Memoir by MaryAnne Bruno

My name is MaryAnne Bruno. I grew up in Sublette, and my parents were Duane and Pauline Murphy. I graduated from Sublette High School in 1963, so the number of people who still remember my parents and me are probably not too numerous. However, my mom served on the Library Board and also taught school at Sublette Grade School. Both of my parents were instrumental in establishing the Haskell County Historical Society. My dad was President of the Fair Board for several years, and he also served on the City Council. (My dad died on Thanksgiving Day at the age of 99 ½, and his obituary was in the Monitor Chief the following week.)

I have written a memoir which records the history of both sides of my family (Huxmans and Murphys). Many of my parents’ friends have died- Maynard and Margaret McCalmont, Eltrude Hall, etc. However, Clara Stopple and Tania McCalmont McNabb might still live in Sublette as do many of my classmates: Bob Moore, Lindsay Wright, Guy Bill Lower, Sharon Hinkle, Kenneth Cox, and Paul Miner to name a few.

After going on the Library website, I remembered that my Grandma Murphy (Faye Murphy) was a member of the Sosuntee Club and probably helped found the library. I remember riding my bike with my sister, Kathleen to go to the library in the basement of the Court House. From the picture of the library today, it looks like the library is flourishing, and that would make my family very proud.

This memoir by Maryanne Bruno is now available for check-out.
